What a load of rubbish 2 !
I’ve received lots of comments about the proposed closure of the ‘tip’ on Everest Road. Today I went collecting signatures for a petition. It’s the Conservative controlled County Council that want to close this popular and well-used recycling centre. The county would save £300,000 but every user would have to pay out for the 11 mile round trip and Fylde Borough would pick up the bill for clearing up all the fly-tipping that will ensue. What effect this would have on Fylde’s much envied recycling rates no one knows. Here’s what one resident sent me:
I am happy that the decision to recommend closure of the site has been deferred for a month. I am however concerned, that if the proposed closure goes ahead, I, and other St. Anne’s residents, will be forced to make an 11 mile round trip to use the Saltcotes site, in order to continue to recycle paper, plastic, glass, cardboard, batteries and other household waste.I am unhappy about the lack of consultation residents have been given, and about the penny-pinching mentality of Lancashire County Council. This reinforces my belief that, short sighted cost cutting exercises will only result in yet another lost facility in St. Annes.
have your say
